On the news front, data released by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics showed that the US added 139,000 non-farm payrolls in May, higher than the market expectation of 130,000. President Trump stated on social media, "Employment data shines, stock market soars! Meanwhile, billions of dollars are pouring in due to tariffs!"
Additionally, the unemployment rate in May remained unchanged at 4.2%, in line with market expectations, staying within a narrow range of 4.0% to 4.2% since May 2024. This may provide the Federal Reserve with the policy space to delay interest rate cuts.
