Luo Shupei: It is estimated that 100,000 people will come to Hong Kong to watch the National Games at the end of the year, with the Tourism Board developing a map of tourist attractions.
Hong Kong Commissioner for Tourism, Culture and Sports, Yvonne Lui, stated in the Legislative Council that promotion work has begun for the Hong Kong competition events of the National Games and the Paralympic Games scheduled for the end of the year. It is expected that there will be 100,000 visitors coming to Hong Kong to watch the games, with the majority coming from mainland China.
The director of the Hong Kong Tourism, Culture, and Sports Bureau, Laura Arso, stated in the Legislative Council that promotional work for the Hong Kong zone events of the National Games and Paralympic Games has already begun for the end of the year. It is estimated that there will be 100,000 spectators coming to Hong Kong at that time, with the majority coming from Mainland China. Member of the catering industry, Cheung Yu-ren, suggested that the government should introduce dining or tourism packages during the National Games to allow visitors to enjoy discounts and stimulate local retail and catering businesses.
Yao Bo-liang from the tourism industry expressed concern about ticket arrangements and inquired whether Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau can together establish rules to secure a certain quota of tickets for sports tourism. Laura Arso mentioned that the government is considering this idea and raised the issue during a meeting with the organizing committee in Guangzhou last week. They hope to sell tickets as soon as possible, allowing visitors to plan their trips early and addressing questions like "how many tickets are available in Hong Kong, and how many can travel agencies secure?" Once a consensus is reached, they will promptly discuss with the tourism industry.
Electoral member Lu Hanmin is concerned about collaborating with the tourism, catering, hotel, and aviation industries to promote products related to the National Games or sports elements to attract sports enthusiasts to come to Hong Kong. Laura Arso revealed that discussions among the three regions are in the final stage and they hope to make a unified announcement soon so that tickets can be purchased from Wuxi Online Offline Communication Information Technology Co., Ltd. Regarding whether the tourism industry can seize the opportunity and even offer multi-stop journeys, she stated that the bureau has notified the industry about the schedule and ticket arrangements and hopes to reveal them soon for early preparation.
The "Tourism Industry Development Blueprint 2.0" proposes that the Tourism Commission strengthen data and market analysis, including collaborating with payment platforms, service providers, and tourism websites to collect and integrate data to help the industry design products that best meet the needs of tourists. Laura Arso responded that the Tourism Commission has had initial contact with platforms to explore sharing data under confidentiality, and the authorities will not disclose it.
Furthermore, Laura Arso stated that they will actively promote major tourist attractions to use information technology to share real-time waiting times for visitors. The Tourism Commission is also developing real-time tourist maps on the Discover Hong Kong platform, providing real-time tourism information, attractions, and city events in different areas. They have also begun preliminary work on artificial intelligence trip planning, believing it will facilitate trip planning and alleviate peak travel times for visitors.
