According to the data from the Ministry of Transport, as of the end of 2024, the total mileage of rural roads in the country exceeds 4.64 million kilometers, which is long enough to go around the Earth's equator 115 times. There are a total of 530,000 rural road bridges and 2,273 tunnels. Conditions have been met for all towns and organized villages to have hardened roads, and construction of hardened roads for natural villages with large populations has been orderly implemented. The problem of hardened roads to tourist attractions, industrial parks, resource mines, and other major economic nodes in rural areas has basically been solved, forming a basic rural transportation network of "connecting internally, linking villages, allowing buses to reach villages, and ensuring safety and convenience." From January to April 2025, the total fixed asset investment in rural roads nationwide reached 97.51 billion yuan, with approximately 20,000 kilometers of new and rebuilt rural roads completed, accounting for 19.5% of the annual target task (100,000 kilometers). A total of 587 projects were implemented through the "work in exchange for relief" approach, with a total labor compensation of 1.1 billion yuan and the employment of 12,000 rural laborers. There were 55 key projects implemented through this approach, with a total labor compensation of 4.4 billion yuan and the employment of 36,000 rural laborers. A total of 9,972.1 kilometers of rural road safety and life protection projects were implemented, accounting for 19.9% of the annual target task (50,000 kilometers). 1,115 dangerous bridges on rural roads were renovated, accounting for 37.2% of the annual target task (3,000 bridges). A total of 28,000 kilometers of maintenance projects were implemented, further improving the service level and capacity of rural roads.
