GAC Group announced its official entry into the Brazilian market, launching four electric vehicles and one hybrid model to begin local sales. The company plans to invest 6 billion Brazilian reais over five years and aims to build a factory by Q4 2026.

GAC Group has officially announced its entry into the Brazilian market, aiming to introduce hybrid and electric vehicle models to cater to local consumers. The initiative is intended to pave the way for establishing a manufacturing facility in Brazil by the end of 2026.

Recognized as the world’s sixth-largest automotive market, Brazil has experienced rapid growth in electric vehicle sales. In recent years, Chinese automakers such as Great Wall Motor, Chery, and BYD have increased their footprint in the area.

GAC disclosed last year its intention to invest 6 billion Brazilian reais—approximately 7.612 billion RMB based on current exchange rates—into the Brazilian market over the next five years. The company is set to launch four imported electric vehicles and one hybrid model locally on Saturday, marking the official commencement of its sales operations.

Within five years, GAC International's president, Wei Haigang, predicted that the company might sell 100,000 cars in Brazil. “Brazil’s vast territory makes it a market of great significance to us,” he stated during an interview, adding that GAC has formulated a “long-term development strategy” for the country.

According to data from the National Federation of Motor Vehicle Distributors of Brazil, electrified vehicles currently represent the fastest-growing segment in the market. Between January and April of this year, sales of such vehicles rose 37.4% year-on-year, reaching 70,450 units. In comparison, overall light vehicle sales grew by only 3.4%, totaling 714,800 units.

Acknowledging the competitive landscape, Wei emphasized that ongoing “external factors” have not affected GAC’s strategic direction in Brazil. "The China-Brazil bilateral relationship is the foundation of our strategy," he said.

Wei further disclosed that GAC is in ongoing negotiations with local partners and anticipates establishing a manufacturing facility in Brazil by the fourth quarter of 2026.
