Tencent Cloud and WeRide Strengthen Strategic Cooperation to Advance Robotaxi Commercialization and Global Expansion

On May 20, Tencent Cloud signed an enhanced strategic cooperation agreement with autonomous driving technology company WeRide, furthering collaboration in the large-scale commercialization of Robotaxi services, intelligent driving technology development, and international market expansion.

Under the agreement, both parties will jointly promote the scaled deployment of L4-level autonomous Robotaxi services. They will also explore integration of WeRide’s Robotaxi solutions into platforms such as mobility services within WeChat and Tencent Maps. Tencent will support WeRide’s R&D and commercial operations by providing cloud services and mapping data resources.

To support global development, the two companies will collaborate on building intelligent driving solutions for international markets. Backed by Tencent Cloud’s global infrastructure and operational experience, WeRide will receive localized, compliant cloud services overseas, establishing a high-performance and stable network for intelligent driving. This collaboration will enable WeRide—already holding a first-mover advantage in many international markets—to accelerate large-scale commercial rollout of autonomous driving products abroad.

The two sides will also co-develop an integrated cloud-and-map data platform and toolset, forming a fully compliant data solution to speed up the R&D and mass production of intelligent driving technologies.

In April 2024, WeRide and Tencent Cloud signed an initial strategic cooperation agreement, initiating in-depth technological collaboration on autonomous driving cloud platforms and jointly creating assisted driving solutions. The companies have established concrete cooperation in cloud computing, SD map data, and compliance services, achieving significant progress in those areas.

Han Xu, Founder and CEO of WeRide, noted that the company is a global pioneer and leader in autonomous driving. He emphasized that Tencent Cloud, as a top-tier provider of secure and reliable cloud infrastructure, brings critical value to intelligent driving. He added that the strengthened partnership will combine the strengths of both sides to build a next-generation data-driven autonomous driving cloud platform, connecting the entire process from development to testing and operations, thereby accelerating the commercial scaling of Robotaxi and other autonomous driving solutions.

Zhong Xiangping, Vice President of Tencent Group and President of Tencent Intelligent Mobility, stated that Tencent has consistently focused on cloud, mapping, and AI technologies to help the automotive sector develop integrated digital infrastructure. He recognized WeRide as an innovator in the global intelligent driving field and expressed hope that the deepened collaboration will lead to new commercial applications in smart assisted driving and Robotaxi services, ultimately delivering safer, more efficient, and user-friendly mobility experiences.
