Comparing March 2025 with March 2024, overall export volume and import volume of goods in Hong Kong increased by 15.8% and 13.5% respectively. Comparing the first quarter of 2025 with the same period in 2024, overall export volume and import volume of goods in Hong Kong increased by 8.7% and 7.3% respectively. Seasonally adjusted figures show that comparing the first quarter of 2025 with the fourth quarter of 2024, overall export volume and import volume of goods increased by 9.5% and 7.5% respectively. Changes in trade volume are calculated by deducting the impact of price changes from changes in trade value.
Comparing March 2025 with March 2024, overall export prices and import prices of goods both rose by 2.1%. Comparing the first quarter of 2025 with the same period in 2024, overall export prices and import prices of goods increased by 1.9% and 2.0% respectively. Price changes in foreign trade are reflected in changes in the unit price index for foreign trade. This index is calculated based on the actual prices of average unit values or individual commodities.
The trade price ratio index is calculated based on the ratio of the overall export price index to the import price index of goods. Compared to the same period in 2024, this index remained largely unchanged in March 2025, but fell by 0.1% in the first quarter of 2025.
Comparing March 2025 with March 2024, the overall export volume to China's Taiwan Province (52.4%), Vietnam (40.0%), Mainland China (22.3%), and the United States (9.6%) recorded an increase. On the other hand, the overall export volume to India decreased by 7.0%.
At the same time, the overall export prices to China's Taiwan Province (5.7%), Mainland China (2.1%), Vietnam (1.4%), and the United States (1.2%) increased. On the other hand, the overall export prices to India decreased by 0.7%.
Comparing March 2025 with March 2024, the import volume from Vietnam (80.6%), China's Taiwan Province (66.4%), and Mainland China (7.2%) recorded an increase. On the other hand, the import volume from Singapore (-4.6%) and South Korea (-26.9%) decreased.
At the same time, the import prices from all major supply sources increased: South Korea (6.7%), China's Taiwan Province (3.4%), Singapore (2.7%), Vietnam (2.6%), and Mainland China (0.5%).
