Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN.US) is cutting about 100 jobs in its devices and services department, which is responsible for developing products including the Alexa voice assistant and Kindle e-readers. This move highlights the e-commerce company's efforts to streamline its workforce. Amazon.com, Inc. spokesperson Christie Schmidt said in a statement on Wednesday, "As part of our ongoing efforts to optimize team and project operations and better align with product roadmaps, we have made the difficult decision to reduce a small number of roles." "We do not take these decisions lightly and are committed to supporting affected employees through the transition." In 2022, Amazon.com, Inc. CEO Andy Jassy launched the largest corporate job cut plan in the company's history, ultimately cutting 27,000 positions at the Seattle-based company. Several rounds of smaller layoffs followed, including a job cut in the communications department in January. As of March 31, Amazon.com, Inc. had 1.56 million full-time and part-time employees, a 3% increase from the same period last year. The majority of employees at this online retailer are hourly warehouse and delivery network logistics employees.
