In April 2025, the national consumer prices fell by 0.1% compared to the same period last year. Among them, urban prices remained unchanged, while rural prices fell by 0.3%; food prices decreased by 0.2%, non-food prices remained unchanged; consumer goods prices fell by 0.3%, and service prices rose by 0.3%.
On May 10, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, the nationwide Consumer Price Index (CPI) in April 2025 decreased by 0.1% compared to the same period last year. In urban areas, prices remained stable, while in rural areas they decreased by 0.3%. Food prices dropped by 0.2%, non-food prices remained stable; consumer goods prices dropped by 0.3%, while service prices increased by 0.3%. On average from January to April, the nationwide CPI dropped by 0.1% compared to the same period last year. In April, the nationwide CPI increased by 0.1% month-on-month. In urban areas, prices went up by 0.2%, while in rural areas they remained stable. Food prices increased by 0.2%, non-food prices increased by 0.1%; consumer goods prices remained stable, while service prices increased by 0.3%. I. Year-on-year changes in prices of various goods and services In April, the prices of food and tobacco products increased by 0.3% year-on-year, contributing to a CPI increase of about 0.07 percentage points. Among food items, the prices of fresh fruits increased by 5.2%, contributing to a CPI increase of about 0.11 percentage points; aquatic products prices increased by 1.5%, contributing to a CPI increase of about 0.03 percentage points; prices of livestock meat increased by 0.6%, contributing to a CPI increase of about 0.02 percentage points, with pork prices increasing by 5.0%, contributing to a CPI increase of about 0.06 percentage points; prices of fresh vegetables decreased by 5.0%, contributing to a CPI decrease of about 0.10 percentage points; prices of grains decreased by 1.4%, contributing to a CPI decrease of about 0.02 percentage points. The prices of other seven categories increased year-on-year except for one. Specifically, the prices of other goods and services, clothing, education, culture, and entertainment increased by 6.6%, 1.3%, and 0.7% respectively, while the prices of daily goods and services, medical care, and housing increased by 0.2%, 0.2%, and 0.1% respectively; transportation and communication prices decreased by 3.9%. II. Month-on-month changes in prices of various goods and services In April, the prices of food and tobacco products increased by 0.2% month-on-month, contributing to a CPI increase of about 0.05 percentage points. Among food items, the prices of fresh fruits increased by 2.2%, contributing to a CPI increase of about 0.05 percentage points; aquatic products prices increased by 1.2%, contributing to a CPI increase of about 0.02 percentage points; prices of fresh vegetables decreased by 1.8%, contributing to a CPI decrease of about 0.04 percentage points; pork prices decreased by 1.6%, contributing to a CPI decrease of about 0.02 percentage points; prices of eggs decreased by 1.0%, contributing to a CPI decrease of about 0.01 percentage points. The prices of other seven categories varied month-on-month, with three categories increasing, two remaining stable, and two decreasing. Specifically, the prices of other goods and services, education, culture, and entertainment, and medical care increased by 2.4%, 0.4%, and 0.2% respectively; housing and daily goods and services prices remained stable; transportation and communication, and clothing prices decreased by 0.3% and 0.1% respectively.
