Hong Kong Financial Secretary Paul Chan pointed out in his speech at the event that the establishment of the research institute is the result of Hong Kong Investment Company signing a strategic cooperation agreement with the Sime Darby Group last year, and he is pleased that this has become a reality.
The opening ceremony of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) Von Neumann Artificial Intelligence Institute was held today, led by the founder of Qumaru Group, Jia Jiaya. Hong Kong Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po attended the event and pointed out in his speech that the establishment of the institute is the result of a strategic cooperation agreement signed between the HKUST and Qumaru Group last year. He expressed his happiness at this becoming a reality. He also mentioned that the establishment of the institute is a major step towards enhancing Hong Kong's position as a global leader in AI innovation. He stated that artificial intelligence has become a decisive productivity force, enhancing productivity motivation and providing businesses with better services. Integrating AI into industries is also a government goal, requiring close cooperation between government, industry, academia, research, and investors to achieve this vision. Addressing concerns such as AI bias, extensive data collection, and job displacement, he believed that efforts should be made to increase transparency in the process of using AI. He expressed confidence that the institute can play a significant role in promoting the responsible use of AI, contributing to governance frameworks, and benefiting society from AI advancements.
