In the first quarter of this year, there were 550,000 group inbound tourists, an increase of 9.1% annually. Mainland Chinese group tourists increased by 6.3% to 477,000, while international group tourists increased by 19.8% to 60,000, with South Korean group tourists (33,000) increasing by 43.5%.
The number of Macau residents purchasing outbound travel services through travel agencies increased by 8.7% annually to 124,000, with 31,000 residents traveling in groups outbound, of which 27,000 went to mainland China.
In March, there were 244,000 group inbound tourists, an increase of 5.6% annually. Mainland Chinese group tourists increased by 2.4% to 214,000, while international group tourists increased by 21.5% to 24,000, with South Korean group tourists (11,000) increasing by 41.9%. On the other hand, the number of Macau residents purchasing outbound travel services through travel agencies decreased by 0.8% annually to 45,000, with non-group outbound residents decreasing by 6.1% to 31,000, and group outbound residents increasing by 13.7% to 14,000.
At the end of the first quarter, there were a total of 147 hotel establishments providing accommodation services, an increase of 6 establishments annually, with a decrease in the number of available rooms by 5.8% to 44,000. The average occupancy rate of hotel rooms in the first quarter increased by 5.2 percentage points annually to 90.1%, with five-star (93.2%), four-star (84.5%), and three-star (86.6%) hotels each experiencing an increase in occupancy rates.
In the first quarter, the number of hotel guests decreased by 5.4% annually to 3.574 million, with mainland Chinese guests (2.721 million) decreasing by 3.4%, and international guests (292,000) increasing by 8.1%. Among international guests, those from South Korea (92,000), Japan (26,000), Malaysia (22,000), and Indonesia (17,000) increased by 16.1%, 9.8%, 14.7%, and 31.2% respectively, while guests from Thailand (17,000), India (13,000), and the United States (13,000) decreased by 9.2%, 5%, and 0.9% respectively.
In March of this year, the average occupancy rate of hotel rooms increased by 5.1 percentage points annually to 88.8%. The number of hotel guests decreased by 2.7% annually to 1.203 million, with the average length of stay remaining at 1.6 nights.
