Swearing wildly, "F***" flies everywhere! Musk and Bezos erupt in a fierce argument.
This is not a battle of right or wrong, but a struggle for control.
The White House is engulfed in a fierce power struggle, with Musk and US Treasury Secretary Benson erupting into a heated argument.
The spark of the argument was the disagreement over the appointment of the leader of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Musk wanted to appoint Gary Shapley as the Acting IRS Director, while Benson preferred the Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Michael Faulkender.
In the end, it seems that Benson has emerged victorious in this appointment of the IRS leader.
Analysis suggests that this is a struggle for "control", and the argument may just be the beginning, with the possibility of more conflicts in the future.
Benson's favored candidate eventually received support from Trump, which is also seen as a signal that the relationship between Trump and Musk is cooling.
01 Musk and Benson engaged in a fierce argument
According to media reports on Thursday, just last week, in front of Trump and a group of White House officials, Musk and Treasury Secretary Benson engaged in a heated exchange of insults, with expletives flying everywhere, creating an explosive standoff where "F***" was everywhere!
Sources revealed that the usually mild-mannered Benson was thoroughly enraged, yelling, "F*** you". Musk loudly retorted, saying, "Say it louder".
The argument escalated to personal attacks, with Benson accusing Musk of exaggerating and making no progress in the DOGE budget cuts (overpromising and under-delivering budget cuts)!
Musk, not one to back down, directly retorted that Benson was a "Soros agent" and mocked him for his failed hedge fund in the past, despite Trump praising Benson for his financial expertise.
The conflict even escalated to the brink of physical confrontation, with witnesses stating that the conflict was not limited to the Oval Office, and Trump witnessed the situation spiraling out of control. As they continued their argument along the corridors, tensions flared up once again!
Witnesses recalled that the scene was too intense, with loud arguments. Italian Prime Minister Meloni, who was visiting Trump that day, was also startled, and it took an assistant to finally separate the two.
02 Lingering grievances between the two, is Musk being sidelined in the White House?
Behind this argument is the long-standing tension between Musk and Benson.
Musk is famous for his "rapid action, innovation" style, and is also a social media personality. Benson, on the other hand, is a reserved, thoughtful financial expert who prefers to explain markets rather than be a news figure.
Sources point out that the differences in personalities between the two are at the root of their conflict, and this argument reflects the power struggle between the two. A government official familiar with the disagreements stated:
This is not a fight about right or wrong, but about control.
During the transition period of the president, the relationship between Musk and Benson got off to a bad start. Musk lobbied hard for Howard Lutnick to become Secretary of the Treasury, but Trump ultimately chose Benson and appointed Lutnick to lead the Department of Commerce.
After Trump became president, Musk and Benson clashed over hiring issues at the Treasury Department.
However, two months ago, seemingly to save face, Benson praised Musk as "Messi and Jordan", stating that he "always keeps his eye on the target" and his energy is unbelievably high.
Last week, the tensions between the two escalated, with a post accusing Benson of collaborating with "Trump haters". Musk, in a retweet, wrote, "Disturbing". Musk also unfollowed Benson's account.
It is worth mentioning that since Musk began to treat various institutions aggressively through DOGE recently, his personality and style have angered some senior government officials.
Not only Benson, Musk has also had heated disputes with Secretary of State Rubio, Secretary of Transportation Sean Daffy, and Trade Advisor Navarro.
Another government official stated that everyone thinks DOGE is great, but Elon's actions are a bit too much.
Against the backdrop of Musk's reduced presence next to Trump in recent weeks, Benson's favored candidate eventually received Trump's support, which is also considered a signal of further cooling relations between Trump and Musk.
White House officials also stated that compared to the first few weeks of Trump's re-election, "Musk is no longer as headache-inducing."
