National Bureau of Statistics: Year-on-year and month-on-month decreases in February's PPI both narrowed.

On March 9th, according to the National Bureau of Statistics, in February 2025, the year-on-year decrease in the producer price index for industrial products was 2.2%, while the month-on-month decrease was 0.1%, narrowing by 0.1 percentage point compared to the previous month. The year-on-year decrease in the purchase price index for industrial producers was 2.3%, with a month-on-month decrease of 0.2%. The average for January and February showed a year-on-year decrease of 2.2% in the producer price index for industrial products, and a 2.3% decrease in the purchase price index for industrial producers.
I. Changes in Industrial Producer Prices year-on-year
In February, the producer price index for industrial products showed a 2.5% decrease in prices of means of production, resulting in a total decrease of about 1.86 percentage points in the overall producer price index. Specifically, prices in the mining industry decreased by 6.3%, raw material prices decreased by 1.5%, and prices in the processing industry decreased by 2.7%. Prices of consumer goods decreased by 1.2%, contributing to a total decrease of about 0.31 percentage points in the overall producer price index. Food prices decreased by 1.6%, clothing prices decreased by 0.2%, the prices of general household items increased by 0.9%, and prices of durable goods decreased by 2.5%.
In terms of purchase prices for industrial producers, prices of black metal materials decreased by 8.8%, fuel and power prices decreased by 5.0%, chemical raw material prices decreased by 3.9%, agricultural and sideline product prices decreased by 3.5%, prices of building materials and non-metal category decreased by 2.3%, and textile raw material prices decreased by 1.7%; prices of non-ferrous metal materials and wires increased by 11.1%.
II. Changes in Industrial Producer Prices month-on-month
In February, the producer price index for industrial products showed a 0.2% decrease in prices of means of production, resulting in a total decrease of about 0.14 percentage points in the overall producer price index. Prices in the mining industry decreased by 1.3%, raw material prices increased by 0.1%, and prices in the processing industry decreased by 0.2%. Prices of consumer goods remained stable. Specifically, food prices decreased by 0.2%, clothing prices decreased by 0.2%, prices of general household items increased by 0.1%, and prices of durable goods remained stable.
In terms of purchase prices for industrial producers, prices of agricultural and sideline products decreased by 0.7%, prices of building materials and non-metal category decreased by 0.5%, prices of textile raw materials decreased by 0.2%, fuel and power prices as well as prices of black metal materials decreased by 0.1%; chemical raw material prices remained stable; prices of non-ferrous metal materials and wires increased by 0.2%.
