Research firm Canalys said that in the personal computer AI boom, Apple Inc. (AAPL.US) is expected to become an early winner in this trend. Canalys stated in a statement that by the end of 2024, 17% of PCs shipped will support AI, with 54% of those being Macs. In the fourth quarter, AI-enabled PC shipments reached 15.4 million units, an increase of 18% from the previous quarter, indicating that consumers and businesses are starting to embrace this trend.
Canalys analyst Kieren Jessop said, "Apple Inc. performed strongly in the fourth quarter of 2024, significantly surpassing the top three vendors, commanding a 10.2% market share in the overall PC market, and holding a 45% market share in the AI-enabled PC market."
The analyst added, "Apple Inc.'s channel strategy is constantly evolving, as they announced the launch of the Apple Partner Network later this year. This improved plan simplifies partner levels and aims to establish a presence in the enterprise sector while providing the services customers need. This plan highlights the compatibility and scalability of the Mac in the enterprise environment, issues which have previously hindered their entry into this area."
Apple Inc. recently reported Mac revenue of $8.99 billion in the last quarter, surpassing Wall Street's predictions.
Based in Cupertino, California, Apple Inc. updated most of its Mac product lineup in October, including the iMac, as well as multiple models of MacBook Pro and MacBook Air. The new MacBook Pro comes with Apple Inc.'s M4 series chips, including M4, M4 Pro and M4 Max, designed specifically for Apple Intelligence. The company also updated its MacBook Air models, increasing the starting memory for models with M2 and M3 chips to 16GB.
In addition to Apple Inc., Lenovo and HP Inc. (HPQ.US) hold a 12% share in the personal computer AI market, to some extent benefiting from Intel Corporation's high-end Lunar Lake processors, as well as AMD and Qualcomm's push in the mid-to-low end.
