Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan Chase (JPM.US), expressed general support for the Government Efficiency Department (DOGE) led by Elon Musk on Monday. Dimon was asked in an interview about his support for the measures taken by the Musk-led Government Efficiency Department. Dimon did not make a clear statement of "support" or "opposition," but made comments generally supporting the practice. Dimon stated in the interview that the U.S. government is still "inefficient and weak in its capabilities, and needs to do a lot of work," "This is not just waste and fraud, it's results." He also stated that a lot of work needs to be done to change this. Dimon expressed his hope that the efforts of the Trump administration to cut federal spending and review federal agencies could be "fairly successful." He said, "It's not just a deficit issue, but about establishing the right policies and procedures, and the kind of government we should have." After becoming the President of the United States, Trump signed executive orders to establish the "Government Efficiency Department" aimed at cutting government spending, led by Musk. Musk believes that the U.S. does not need 450 federal agencies, and some agencies need to be completely eliminated. Since taking on the role of head of the "Government Efficiency Department," with Trump's support, Musk has taken action against several federal government departments, calling for the closure of the U.S. Agency for International Development, stopping the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and abolishing the Federal Administrative Research Institute. The Trump administration's massive cuts to federal employees have also impacted federal agencies such as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The Trump administration's large-scale layoff plan continues, offering buyout plans to federal employees to encourage them to resign voluntarily, while also firing probationary employees. However, the Trump administration's massive layoff plan has sparked widespread controversy in the United States, attracting criticism from the Democratic Party and leading to multiple protests. Some scholars argue that Trump and Musk's actions of closing government agencies and cutting government spending without consulting Congress violate current U.S. laws.
