Hong Kong Airport Authority: In January, Hong Kong International Airport passenger traffic increased by 27.8% year-on-year.

On February 24, the Hong Kong Airport Authority announced the air traffic figures for Hong Kong International Airport in January 2025. The data showed that the number of aircraft takeoffs and landings increased by 17.0% to 33,660 flights for the month, the highest post-epidemic. On January 25, the number of airport passengers exceeded 193,000, reaching a new post-epidemic high, reflecting a complete recovery of passenger traffic to pre-epidemic levels. The total number of airport passengers in January was 5.28 million, a surge of 27.8% year-on-year, with an average daily passenger traffic exceeding 170,000.
Compared to the same month last year, all categories of passengers in January 2025, including Hong Kong residents, visitors, as well as transit and transit passengers, recorded double-digit growth. Passenger traffic to and from Southeast Asia, mainland China, and Japan recorded the most significant increases for the month.
The upward trend in cargo volume continued, with a 4.1% year-on-year increase to 394,000 tons in January 2025. All categories of cargo saw positive growth, with transshipment cargo recording the highest increase of 12.2%. In the month, the most significant increase in cargo volume was seen in trade areas such as the Middle East, Europe, and Australasia.
Over the past 12 months, airport passenger traffic surged by 30.5% to 54.2 million, aircraft takeoffs and landings increased by 27.6% to 368,195, and cargo volume saw double-digit growth, up by 12.0% to 4.95 million tons.
In addition, in January 2025, Hong Kong International Airport added three city terminals in the Greater Bay Area, located at Guangdong Hotel, Foshan Nanhai Vanke Square, and Taishan Changda Chang Square, providing shuttle and car services directly to Hong Kong International Airport.
