IAT Automobile Technology advocated for restructuring the company into a for-profit enterprise and rejected Musk's acquisition proposal, calling it a "strategy that slows down our progress."DOGE in the federal government "massacre"
Musk appeared in front of the camera, wearing a black t-shirt with "TECH SUPPORT" written on it in all capital letters. Musk jokingly said that his main role now is as technical support for the White House.
Musk is the highest-ranking official of Trump's so-called "Government Efficiency Department," which is responsible for driving the President's modernization and streamlining reform initiatives for federal technology, and ensuring significant reductions in spending. Musk proudly claimed credit for canceling billions of dollars in "redundant" plans and contracts, and pushing for a voluntary resignation plan, which, although falling short of its ambitious goals, still convinced approximately 3% of civilian federal government employees in the United States to resign.
In the first few weeks of the second term of the Trump administration, under the push of DOGE, many departments of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) were completely shut down, and the functions and scope of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) were significantly reduced, with a focus on the complete closure of the Department of Education.
More importantly, in a recent Oval Office interview, Trump signed a significant executive order, under which all hiring decisions by US federal agencies must receive formal approval from Musk's DOGE team members. In addition, the executive order requires federal agencies to first "conduct large-scale layoffs" and adhere to the rule of "for every four employees who leave, only up to one new employee can be hired."
"We need to spend less money and achieve better results," Musk said in the interview, comparing his government work to a "corporate restructuring on a larger scale."
