Recently, TechInsights released the five key trends in the computing market for 2025. Artificial intelligence is driving the development of the computing field, and the quarterly revenue of large cloud service providers shows a strong demand for AI data centers. TSMC's AI accelerator (including AI GPUs, AI ASICs, and HBM controllers for data center training and inference) saw a threefold increase in revenue in 2024, and is expected to double in 2025. Although data center demand is dominant, AI will shift towards local and edge devices. By 2025, the computing-driven market is expected to reach $400 billion. Trend 1: Accelerators accelerating development In 2025, the launch of NVIDIA's Blackwell series products will further consolidate its leading position in the data center market. AMD, despite being in second place, is gaining market share in the CPU and GPU fields. TechInsights predicts that NVIDIA's revenue in the data center field will almost double in 2025 and continue to maintain a 96% market share in GPUs. Trend 2: The rise of China Due to restrictions in the US, China is likely to form a unique market driven by local solutions and specialized export products, accelerating its transition towards technological independence. China's rapid development in the field of AI has recently shocked the world, with the release of the cutting-edge model DeepSeek being a prime example. This model is both open-source and can run on hardware that is much cheaper than that of American competitors. Trend 3: TOPS competition 2024 was the year of AI PCs. In 2025, Intel, AMD, Qualcomm, Apple, and MediaTek/NVIDIA will enter into a new competition in the PC field, focusing on platform TOPS and multi-engine optimization. AMD Ryzen AI Max+ and NVIDIA GB10 are breakthroughs, and TechInsights predicts that edge AI will accelerate, with AI chips potentially replacing traditional processors. Trend 4: Building future architectures In 2024, fabless semiconductor companies accounted for more than 50% of the semiconductor market, driving the development of SoCs and chiplet architectures. by integrating computing modules from different technologies and process nodes, chiplets enhance performance and cost-effectiveness. The 2nm process node in 2025 will mainly be used in the computing field, promoting performance and power optimization. SoC methods (and their extension to chiplets and superchips) can utilize heterogeneous computing modules to significantly improve performance and energy efficiency. Trend 5: Smarter IoT As AI is increasingly integrated into edge devices, the Internet of Things will become the next computing opportunity. AI is penetrating low-power devices, whose functionalities are integrated by multiple edge device controller suppliers. By 2025, the proliferation of edge NPU AI IPs will encourage more companies to participate, and Arm and other IP suppliers will compete for market share through RISC-V or custom architectures.
