Recently, research institution EVTank, in collaboration with the Ivie Economic Research Institute, jointly released the "White Paper on the Development of the Automotive Power Battery Industry (2025) of Shanxi Guoxin Energy Corporation". By comparing the top 10 global power battery companies' shipments in the past three years, it can be seen that Contemporary Amperex Technology, BYD Company Limited, and LGES have basically maintained their top 3 positions, and the overall situation is relatively stable. In 2024, CALB replaced Panasonic from Japan to rank fourth globally, and HENAN Necta entered the top ten global power battery shipments for the first time. In 2024, Panasonic from Japan was the only company whose shipments saw an absolute decline compared to the previous year.
The data in the white paper shows that in 2024, global sales of new energy vehicles reached 18.236 million units, a year-on-year increase of 24.4%. In 2024, the sales volume of Shanxi Guoxin Energy Corporation reached 12.866 million vehicles, a year-on-year growth of 35.5%, increasing its global market share from 64.8% in 2023 to 70.5%. The full-year sales of new energy vehicles in Europe and the United States in 2024 were 2.89 million units and 1.573 million units respectively, with year-on-year growth rates of -2.0% and 7.2% respectively. Driven by new energy vehicles, global power battery shipments reached 1,051.2GWh in 2024, a year-on-year increase of 21.5%.
Looking at the global competition landscape of major power battery companies, Contemporary Amperex Technology ranked first with a shipment volume of nearly 360GWh, holding a global market share of 34.2%, a decrease of 1.5 percentage points compared to 2023. Its top five customers in 2024 were Tesla, Geely, BMW, Volkswagen, and Nio. BYD Company Limited ranked second in power battery shipments, driven by the group's new energy vehicles. In addition to this, BYD Company Limited's key customers in 2024 also include Xiaomi, Tesla, Toyota, and Xiaopeng. Ranking third is South Korea's LGES, with a power battery shipment volume of nearly 120GWh in 2024, with top five customers being Volkswagen, Tesla, General Motors, Hyundai, and Volvo. According to EVTank data, the companies ranking fourth to tenth in global power battery shipments in 2024 were CALB, SK On from South Korea, Panasonic from Japan, Samsung SDI from South Korea, Gotion High-tech, Eve Energy Co., Ltd., and HENAN Necta.
