Earlier market rumors said that Alibaba (09988) plans to invest $1 billion (about HK$7.8 billion) in acquiring shares of DeepSeek, but Alibaba has denied this. A spokesperson for Alibaba Group's public relations department stated, "As both are companies based in Hangzhou, China, we applaud DeepSeek, but the information circulating about Alibaba investing in DeepSeek is false."
Alibaba's cloud computing arm, Alibaba Cloud, recently announced that its PAI Model Gallery supports one-click deployment of DeepSeek-V3 and DeepSeek-R1 on the cloud; on this platform, users can achieve the entire process from training to deployment to inference with zero code, simplifying the model development process.
In addition, Alibaba has also been "snatching talent" in the field of AI recently. It was reported that globally renowned artificial intelligence scientist Steven Hoi has officially joined Alibaba as Vice President of Alibaba Group, responsible for AI To C business's multimodal foundational models and Agents-related foundational research and application solutions, enhancing Alibaba's AI application C-end products in end-to-end closed-loop capability of model application integration. Alibaba's AI To C business is building a top-tier AI algorithm research and engineering team, attracting a large number of industry talents to join.
