On January 24, the National Energy Administration released the issuance and trading data of renewable energy green power certificates for December 2024. In December 2024, the National Energy Administration issued 199 million green certificates, an increase of 2.12 times compared to the previous year, involving 58,000 renewable energy generation projects, an increase of 21.29% year-on-year. Among them, 146 million green certificates were tradable, accounting for 73.29%. In November 2024, 159 million green certificates corresponded to renewable energy generation, accounting for 80.04%. The issuance of green certificates has entered a new stage where the current renewable energy generation is the main focus.
From January to December 2024, the National Energy Administration issued a total of 4.734 billion green certificates, with 3.158 billion tradable green certificates. By December 2024, a total of 4.955 billion green certificates had been issued nationwide, including 3.379 billion tradable green certificates. The issuance of historical electricity green certificates for centralized renewable energy generation projects that have been registered and documented since June 2022 has mostly been completed.
In December 2024, the monthly trading volume of green certificates exceeded 100 million for the first time, with a total of 1.14 billion green certificates traded nationwide, reaching a historic high, including 21.55 million green certificates traded through green electricity transactions. From January to December 2024, a total of 4.46 billion green certificates were traded nationwide, including 1.69 billion traded through green electricity transactions. By December 2024, a total of 5.53 billion green certificates had been traded nationwide, including 2.38 billion traded through green electricity transactions.
