After a meeting between Stellantis NV (STLA.US) Chairman John Elkann and U.S. President Donald Trump, the company announced that it will further expand its business footprint in the United States through a multi-billion dollar investment plan.
Antonio Filosa, CEO of Stellantis North America, stated in an internal memo to American employees that the company plans to advance the project to produce the next generation of the Dodge Durango at the Detroit assembly plant.
In addition, the company will reactivate the idle Belvidere plant by 2027 for the production of a new midsize pickup and recall about 1,500 union workers to the Illinois plant.
Furthermore, Stellantis will introduce "additional technology and strong product improvements" for the Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Gladiator at the Toledo assembly plant, and increase the component output at the Toledo machining plant.
It is understood that the company plans to make additional investments at the Kokomo plant to start production of the GME-T4 EVO engine from 2026, ensuring the United States becomes the manufacturing base for this strategic powertrain system, reversing previous plans to shift production overseas.
The United Auto Workers (UAW) announced that, after months of urging, Stellantis has fulfilled its commitments from the 2023 contract negotiations by investing billions of dollars in American auto workers.
These series of measures not only demonstrate Stellantis's focus on the U.S. market, but also reflect its support for American domestic manufacturing and employment.
