On January 20, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, John Lee Ka-chiu, stated in a video speech at the Greater Bay Area Digital Trade Deepening Meeting that Hong Kong will make good use of its advantageous geographical location and first-class transportation and logistics infrastructure to develop Hong Kong into a cross-border e-commerce logistics and distribution center within the region. At the same time, Hong Kong is actively seizing the opportunities for the development of digital trade, promoting the development of digital trade and cross-border e-commerce. He mentioned that Hong Kong will expand the scope of the funding for the "BUD Fund" under the E-commerce Matching Fund Program to cover more regions. The Hong Kong Trade Development Council will continue to organize the "Hong Kong Good Goods Festival" to assist Hong Kong enterprises in expanding their e-commerce market in Mainland China and Southeast Asian countries.
John Lee Ka-chiu pointed out that the Hong Kong government has introduced a number of measures to accelerate the development of digital trade, including using the Greater Bay Area as a pilot to explore facilitating cross-border data flow arrangements, and fully developing a trade single window, etc. Meanwhile, Hong Kong actively engages in international discussions on digital economy development, and when negotiating bilateral trade agreements, it studies the inclusion of relevant chapters to promote the development of digital trade and cross-border e-commerce.
With the changing global trade landscape and the continuous development of technology, digital trade has become a driving force for breaking through traditional trade and promoting trade innovation. Digital trade is also becoming an important direction for global economic development, bringing enormous opportunities for high-quality development in the Greater Bay Area.
The population of the Greater Bay Area of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao exceeds 86 million, with a GDP exceeding 14 trillion RMB. It is one of the regions with the highest degree of openness and strongest economic vitality, and holds significant strategic importance in the overall national development. As one of the central cities in the Greater Bay Area, Hong Kong will actively leverage its unique advantages of being under the "one country, two systems" policy, rely on the mainland and connect with the world, complement the strengths of various cities in the Greater Bay Area, and work together to contribute to and promote the construction of a first-class bay area.
