Maoyan Entertainment (01896) rose more than 6%, as of press time, up 5.84% to HK$8.16, with a turnover of HK$87.438 million.
On the news front, according to Beacon Professional Edition, as of 8:54 on January 20, the total box office of the 2025 Spring Festival season (January 28-February 4) has exceeded 2 billion yuan, breaking the record for the fastest pre-sale box office over 2 billion yuan in Chinese film history. As of press time, "The Legend of the Condor Heroes: The Great Hero", "Ne Zha: The Devil Child Makes Waves", and "Detective Tang 1900" ranked top three in the Spring Festival season pre-sale box office list. Citibank released a research report stating that Maoyan Entertainment's worst times may have passed. As the largest movie ticketing platform, it is expected to benefit from a better movie supply this year, with the company still having a rich lineup of released films. The next catalyst will be the Lunar New Year Spring Festival season.
Central China's research report pointed out that short-term attention should be paid to the performance of the 2025 Spring Festival season. Considering that the Spring Festival season is one of the most important periods of the year, able to release a large amount of box office energy in a short period of time, it has also attracted many high-quality domestic films to be scheduled during the Spring Festival season. The overall quality of films during this period is also at a relatively high level throughout the year. In addition, moviegoing subsidies in multiple regions can cover the Spring Festival season, helping to further stimulate audience traffic to cinemas and unleash the potential for movie consumption. If the box office performance during the Spring Festival season exceeds expectations, it is expected to drive the performance recovery and valuation of the film and television sector.
