ChatGPT manufacturer CEO Sam Altman announced on Friday that OpenAI has completed a version of its new reasoning artificial intelligence model o3 mini and plans to officially launch it in the coming weeks.
Altman wrote on social media platform X that the Microsoft Corporation-backed company has taken user feedback into consideration and plans to release both an application programming interface (API) and ChatGPT simultaneously.
Last December, OpenAI announced that it was testing the reasoning artificial intelligence models o3 and o3 mini, indicating increasing competition with competitors such as Alphabet Inc. Class C (GOOGL.US) in creating more intelligent models that can solve complex problems.
The artificial intelligence startup plans to launch o3 mini at the end of January this year, followed by the full o3 model, surpassing existing models with more powerful language models and attracting new investments and users.
In September 2024, the generative artificial intelligence pioneer released the o1 artificial intelligence model, designed to spend more time processing queries to solve more challenging problems.
In a blog post, the company stated that the o1 model can reason through complex tasks and solve more challenging problems in science, coding, and mathematics than previous models.
The company had previously stated that the new o3 and o3 mini models would be more powerful than the earlier o1 model.
Earlier this week, OpenAI announced a test feature called "ChatGPT Task," signaling the company's entry into the virtual assistant field, competing with Apple Inc.'s Siri and Amazon.com, Inc.'s Alexa.
ChatGPT was released at the end of 2022, sparking an investment frenzy in artificial intelligence companies. Its growing popularity and the launch of new products helped OpenAI raise $6.6 billion in funding in October of last year.
