On January 16, local time, Boeing Company (BA.US) resumed the delayed test flights of the 777X wide-body jet aircraft, marking the first time since the grounding of the test fleet in August last year. Boeing Company stated after the aircraft landed that they will continue to conduct rigorous testing to demonstrate the safety, performance, and reliability of the 777-9. Just five weeks before the grounding in August last year, Boeing Company had conducted certification test flights for the 777-9 model. Boeing Company stated that during routine maintenance after the first test flight, damage was found on the thrust lever of the 777-9. The company said in a statement that the component "did not meet design requirements." Boeing Company plans to replace the engine bracket and stated they will "resume flight testing once ready." Data shows that the 777X is the successor model of Boeing Company's 777, which is one of the most successful long-haul passenger aircraft in commercial aviation. Boeing Company originally planned to deliver the first 777X to its launch customer, Qatar Airways, in 2020. However, delays caused by component issues and a seven-week strike at the end of 2024 forced Boeing Company to push back the first delivery of the 777X to 2026. According to aviation industry analysis company Cirium, Boeing Company has 481 orders for the 777X, including 170 from Emirates and 60 from Qatar Airways. Other customers include Lufthansa and Singapore Airlines.
