Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN.US) has confirmed that the company will lay off about 200 employees in its North American store department. The core retail business, which is the store department of Amazon.com, Inc., encompasses a wide range of departments, including private labels, Prime membership program, and consumables business. A spokesperson for Amazon.com, Inc. stated in a statement, "We have made adjustments to the North American store team as we believe this structure will better help us achieve our top priorities." "As part of these changes, we have made the difficult decision to eliminate a small number of positions and are committed to supporting affected employees through the transition." The spokesperson mentioned that the layoffs include employees in departments such as fashion and fitness. Amazon.com, Inc. CEO Andy Jassy has taken action to control costs across the entire company, laying off about 27,000 people since the beginning of 2022. While most of the layoffs occurred in 2022 and 2023, the impact has been felt across almost all of the company's business portfolios. Amazon.com, Inc. has also shut down some experimental, unprofitable projects, including remote healthcare services, physical delivery projects, and try-on services for clothing and shoes.
