On Friday, American electric vehicle battery manufacturer Microvast Holdings (MVST.US) announced an important milestone in the development of its solid-state battery technology, causing the company's stock price to surge by 45% in pre-market trading.
In a statement, Microvast said that unlike traditional lithium-ion or semi-solid-state batteries, the company's ASSB uses a bipolar stacked architecture that allows for internal series connections within a single battery cell.
Traditional lithium-ion and semi-solid-state batteries are limited by liquid electrolytes and typically operate at nominal voltages of 3.2V to 3.7V per battery. In contrast, Microvast's technology eliminates liquid electrolytes.
According to the company, this breakthrough allows for individual batteries to achieve voltages of tens of volts or higher based on specific application requirements.
Microvast CEO Yang Wu said, "Our solid-state battery innovation has made significant leaps in addressing safety and efficiency challenges in the real world."
