IDC: Global PC shipments reached 68.9 million units in the fourth quarter, with Lenovo's market share reaching a record high.
According to preliminary tracking data from International Data Corporation (IDC), in the fourth quarter of 2024, the global shipments of personal computers (PCs) increased by 1.8% year-on-year, reaching 68.9 million units. For the whole year, shipments reached 262.7 million units, a 1% increase compared to the previous year. Among the top five companies, Lenovo (00992) once again took the top spot with a market share of 24.5% in the fourth quarter.
Jitesh Ubrani, research manager of IDC's global mobile device tracking, stated that despite a slower growth in the market overall, in the fourth quarter, the performance of the consumer sector exceeded expectations due to subsidies from the Chinese government, bringing about optimism. Additionally, the United States and some European countries showed strong performance due to year-end sales promotions and continued hardware upgrades by businesses before the end of Windows 10 support in October 2025.
