Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN.US) cloud computing division AWS announced plans to invest $11 billion in the state of Georgia in the United States, continuing to expand its cloud and artificial intelligence infrastructure.
AWS stated, "Generative artificial intelligence is driving increased demand for advanced cloud infrastructure and computing capabilities, and AWS's investment will support the future of artificial intelligence in Georgia data centers. AWS data centers are flexible enough to efficiently run GPU for traditional workloads or artificial intelligence and machine learning models."
These investments will be located in Atlanta's Great Southeast Corp.Ltd area and in Bartow County and Douglas County in the west. AWS expects to create 550 high-skilled job positions.
Amazon.com, Inc. holds about 31% market share to become the world's largest cloud provider, but Microsoft Corporation (MSFT.US) and Alphabet Inc. Class C (GOOGL.US) have seen continuous market share increases in the past few years, reaching 20% and 12% respectively.
Last year, Amazon.com, Inc. stated that it plans to invest over $100 billion in AI-centered data centers in the coming years. AWS has already invested billions of dollars in data center projects in Virginia, Mississippi, Indiana, and Pennsylvania.
