Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN.US) cloud computing division AWS has launched the AWS Asia Pacific (Thailand) region, marking an important step towards strengthening digital infrastructure in Thailand and the entire Asia Pacific region.
Users will have more options to run their applications and provide services to end users from the AWS data center located in Thailand.
The initiative includes an investment of over $5 billion, expected to contribute approximately $10 billion to Thailand's GDP. The project is expected to create over 11,000 job opportunities in the country annually, including in construction, facility maintenance, engineering, telecommunications, and other sectors.
The new region will allow organizations to run their applications and store data locally, reducing latency and improving service delivery to end users.
Active customers in Thailand and the entire Southeast Asia region include the Digital Government Development Agency, Metro Systems, NTT DATA, the Stock Exchange of Thailand, among others.
Prasad Kalyanaraman, Vice President of Infrastructure Services at AWS, said: "This new AWS region in Thailand will help customers across all industries deploy advanced applications with a wide range of AWS technologies, providing core cloud functions such as computing, storage, analytics, and networking, as well as services that enable customers to rapidly innovate, such as artificial intelligence and machine learning."
He added: "With today's launch, AWS is proud to support Thailand's digital transformation and help accelerate its role as a hub for artificial intelligence in the region."
