Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stre expressed concern on Monday about billionaire Elon Musk's involvement in political issues outside the United States. Musk, a close ally of US President Donald Trump, not only supported anti-immigrant and anti-Islam parties before the German elections, but also made comments on British politics. His extensive use of social media and vast economic resources to intervene in the internal affairs of other countries has attracted international attention.
Stre pointed out that Musk's direct interference in the internal affairs of other countries is deeply worrying, and emphasized that such a relationship should not exist between democratic countries and allies. He further stated that if Musk gets involved in Norwegian politics, Norwegian politicians should collectively avoid such behavior to maintain the legitimacy of relations between countries.
As the richest person in the world, Musk contributed over $250 million to help Trump win the election and was appointed by Trump as a special advisor responsible for cutting federal budgets. In addition, the German government accused Musk and his companies last week of attempting to influence the German elections by publishing op-ed articles.
In response, German Deputy Chancellor Robert Habeck believes that Musk's support for the far-right Alternative for Germany party is a "logical and systematic" strategy he has taken against the weak regulation in Europe.
