According to reports, Apple Inc. (AAPL.US) will request a federal judge to dismiss the U.S. Department of Justice's case accusing the company of illegally monopolizing the smartphone market.
The report states that Judge Julien Neals in the Newark area of New Jersey will hear arguments from Apple Inc. lawyers and prosecutors, with prosecutors claiming that Apple Inc. locks in users and prevents competition by limiting interoperability.
The case against Apple Inc. began during Donald Trump's first term as president and was filed during the Biden administration.
The tech giant has taken action to dismiss the case, stating that its practices of restricting developer access to its technology are reasonable, and forcing the company to share technology with competitors will hinder innovation.
Large tech companies have been a focus of antitrust scrutiny, with Alphabet (GOOGL.US) being found to illegally monopolize the online search market. Agreements between Alphabet Inc. Class C and Apple Inc. and other smartphone manufacturers are also a core issue in the Department of Justice's antitrust lawsuit against this search giant.
Jefferies Financial Group Inc. stated that if the Department of Justice ultimately wins after a series of appeals, Apple Inc. could lose a significant amount of valuable revenue.
Furthermore, it is reported that Apple Inc. has proposed a $100 million investment plan in Indonesia to establish a factory producing components and parts. This proposal comes after Indonesia banned Apple Inc. from selling the iPhone 16 for failing to meet local regulations on components.
