Hainan Strait Shipping (002320.SZ) announced that on November 18, 2024, the company's eighth board of directors held its first meeting and approved with 11 votes in favor, 0 votes against, and 0 abstentions the proposal regarding the construction of a new passenger and roll-on/roll-off ship by Qiongzhou Strait (Hainan) Ferry Transport Co., Ltd. The subsidiary company, Qiongzhou Strait (Hainan) Ferry Transport Co., Ltd. (referred to as "Qiongzhou Ferry"), was approved to invest 260 million RMB in constructing a new green intelligent passenger and roll-on/roll-off ship to replace the existing old ships and operate on the Haikou-Xuwen route.
The newly constructed ship is designed as a steel green intelligent passenger and roll-on/roll-off ship operating in domestic coastal areas, capable of carrying passengers and various small vehicles. The ship has a passenger capacity of approximately 1,250 people and is designed according to the requirements of domestic regulations as a Class III type passenger ship, with stability, fire protection, and life-saving measures designed as for a Class I passenger ship, and the hull structure strength designed according to the requirements of passenger and roll-on/roll-off ships in domestic long-distance sea areas. The ship is designed as a steel hull ship with a hybrid power electric propulsion system, two sets of fully rotating rudder propellers, a bulbous bow, the engine room located at the stern, two bow-side thrusters, a pair of anti-rolling fins (for operation in wind up to Beaufort scale 8), with multiple continuous decks. The ship's decks are arranged from bottom to top as: first and second decks (for small vehicle cargo 1 and 2), third deck (main vehicle deck, propulsion room), fourth and fifth decks (passenger seating area, passenger public areas, mooring area), sixth deck (crew, bridge), and seventh deck (compass deck, viewing hall).
