On November 15th, the National Bureau of Statistics released the energy production situation for October 2024. In October, the production of raw coal, crude oil, natural gas, and electricity in large-scale industries (hereinafter referred to as large-scale industries) remained stable. In October, the electricity generation of large-scale industries reached 731 billion kilowatt-hours, an increase of 2.1% year-on-year; the daily average electricity generation was 235.8 billion kilowatt-hours. From January to October, the electricity generation of large-scale industries reached 780.27 billion kilowatt-hours, an increase of 5.2% year-on-year.
I. Production of raw coal, crude oil, and natural gas and related situations
Raw coal production steadily increased. In October, the output of raw coal in large-scale industries reached 410 million tons, an increase of 4.6% year-on-year, with a growth rate 0.2 percentage points higher than September; the daily output was 13.284 million tons. Coal imports reached 46.25 million tons, an increase of 28.5% year-on-year.
From January to October, the output of raw coal in large-scale industries reached 3.89 billion tons, an increase of 1.2% year-on-year. Coal imports reached 440 million tons, an increase of 13.5% year-on-year.
The growth rate of crude oil production accelerated. In October, the output of crude oil in large-scale industries reached 17.77 million tons, an increase of 2.5% year-on-year, with a growth rate 1.4 percentage points higher than September; the daily output was 573,000 tons. Crude oil imports reached 44.7 million tons, a decrease of 8.7% year-on-year.
From January to October, the output of crude oil in large-scale industries reached 177.64 million tons, an increase of 2.0% year-on-year. Crude oil imports reached 457.07 million tons, a decrease of 3.4% year-on-year.
The decrease in crude oil processing narrowed. In October, the crude oil processing volume in large-scale industries reached 59.54 million tons, a decrease of 4.6% year-on-year, with a narrowing decrease of 0.8 percentage points compared to September; the daily processing volume was 1.921 million tons. From January to October, the crude oil processing volume in large-scale industries reached 590.59 million tons, a decrease of 2.0% year-on-year.
Natural gas production grew rapidly. In October, the output of natural gas in large-scale industries reached 20.8 billion cubic meters, an increase of 8.4% year-on-year, with a growth rate 1.6 percentage points higher than September; the daily output was 670 million cubic meters. Natural gas imports reached 10.54 million tons, an increase of 20.7% year-on-year.
From January to October, the output of natural gas in large-scale industries reached 203.9 billion cubic meters, an increase of 6.7% year-on-year. Natural gas imports reached 109.53 million tons, an increase of 13.6% year-on-year.
II. Electricity production situation
Electricity production in large-scale industries maintained stable growth. In October, the electricity generation of large-scale industries reached 731 billion kilowatt-hours, an increase of 2.1% year-on-year; the daily average electricity generation was 235.8 billion kilowatt-hours. From January to October, the electricity generation of large-scale industries reached 780.27 billion kilowatt-hours, an increase of 5.2% year-on-year.
By variety, in October, the growth rate of electricity generation in large-scale industries for thermal power, nuclear power, CECEP Solar Energy decreased, hydropower saw a larger decrease, and wind power saw an accelerated growth. Specifically, thermal power in large-scale industries increased by 1.8% year-on-year, a decrease of 7.1 percentage points from September; hydropower in large-scale industries decreased by 14.9%, an increase of 0.3 percentage points from September; nuclear power in large-scale industries increased by 2.2%, a decrease of 0.6 percentage points from September; wind power in large-scale industries increased by 34.0%, an increase of 2.4 percentage points from September; CECEP Solar Energy in large-scale industries increased by 12.6%, a decrease of 0.1 percentage points from September.
