The largest automotive workers' union organization in Canada, Unifor, announced on Sunday local time that members of the Unifor union at the CAMI assembly plant and battery assembly plant in Ontario, Canada, have signed a two-year contract with General Motors Company (GM.US), which will result in significant pay raises.
According to reports, members of the Canadian union branch Unifor Local 88 have approved this contract with a whopping 95.7% vote in favor. The contract will immediately increase workers' wages by 10%, followed by a 2% increase in September 2025 and a 3% increase in July 2026.
Additionally, the Canadian union organization stated in a declaration that this contract will also provide skilled technical workers with a 20.25% wage increase.
According to Unifor's statistics, the new two-year agreement will expire on September 20, 2026.
"Unifor has successfully negotiated a two-year contract for the first time, which will align the salary negotiations for CAMI automotive assembly plant members with the United Auto Workers union of the Detroit Big Three automakers in the United States, thereby combining the future bargaining power of over 5,600 members of General Motors Company," said Lana Payne, National President of Unifor Canada.
However, General Motors Company did not immediately respond to any media inquiries.
Unifor Local 88, representing over 1300 union members at the CAMI assembly plant and Battery Assembly in Canada, produces Chevrolet BrightDrop EV 600 and EV 400 vehicles under General Motors Company, as well as a portion of General Motors Company's Ultium electric vehicle battery modules.
