BOC HONG KONG (02388) announced the launch of the first carbon footprint tracking feature in Hong Kong within the mobile banking app "Carbon. Life", further promoting the digital green transformation of the bank to support customers in transitioning to a green and low-carbon lifestyle.
BOC HONG KONG's mobile banking app uses artificial intelligence to integrate and categorize transaction data from various accounts to estimate customers' carbon footprint, which is the total amount of greenhouse gases emitted directly and indirectly in daily life, converted into everyday examples such as car miles driven. Customers can also check their carbon footprint level to understand the impact of their financial habits on the environment. This feature is currently available to selected customers and will be expanded to other customers in July.
Li Bin, Director of Digitalization for Personal Banking and Wealth Management at BOC HONG KONG, stated that the bank continues to promote the digitization and paperless processes of its services. As of March this year, nearly 90% of the bank's transactions were completed through digital channels. The number of active users on the mobile banking app has increased by nearly 20% year-on-year, reflecting customers' preference for convenient and environmentally friendly online financial services. He further noted that BOC HONG KONG's mobile banking app was the first to introduce the "Carbon. Life" section providing environmental and financial information, which has been well-received by customers. As of May, the average daily views of this section have increased by over 40% compared to last year.
In addition to the carbon footprint tracking feature, the mobile banking app's "Carbon. Life" section has also added a personal spending analysis feature. This allows customers to visualize their monthly spending categories, details, distribution, and other transaction information to help manage daily expenses and develop good financial plans.
