According to informed sources, Tesla will dissolve its Dojo supercomputer team, and its leader will also resign, marking the end of the automaker's efforts to develop its own chips for autonomous driving technology. The sources said that Peter Bannon, who leads the Dojo team, will leave the company, and Tesla CEO Elon Musk has ordered the project to be halted. Due to internal matters, the sources requested anonymity. They stated that recently, about 20 employees of the team have moved to the newly established DensityAI, while the remaining staff will be reassigned to other data centers and computing projects within Tesla. The sources said that Tesla plans to increase its reliance on external technology partners, including NVIDIA and AMD for computing, and Samsung Electronics for chip manufacturing. This decision marks a significant shift in a plan that has been worked on for years. Tesla had planned to invest billions of dollars to enhance artificial intelligence AI computing power, with Dojo being at the core of this plan.
