State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce issued a statement on the 22nd announcing that the United States is withdrawing from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). According to the latest report from Agence France-Presse, UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay expressed deep regret over the decision by the United States to withdraw from the organization, but also stated that it was not unexpected. Azoulay said, "I regret deeply the decision of President Trump to once again withdraw the United States from UNESCO." Additionally, she also said, "While regrettable, this decision was expected, and UNESCO was prepared for it." The United States had previously withdrawn from UNESCO and then re-joined. In October 2017, the State Department announced that the United States was leaving UNESCO. In 2023, the United States rejoined the organization.
