Priority should be given to ensuring the electricity supply for hospitals and water treatment plants on Weizhou Island during typhoons as it may affect daily life.
Reporters learned from the command office of the flood control and drought resistance headquarters in the tourist area of Weizhou Island, Beihai City, Guangxi, that due to the impact of Typhoon "Veppa" on June 6, 2025, CNOOC's North Bay offshore platform has activated its emergency plan. All offshore platform operators have been evacuated for safety, resulting in a significant decrease in natural gas power generation and supply on Weizhou Island, affecting the island's power generation capacity. During the period of Typhoon "Veppa", electricity on the island will prioritize ensuring the normal operation of essential departments such as hospitals, water treatment plants, and sewage treatment plants. If the typhoon wind is strong, the power supply lines may be impacted, and the power supply department will try to ensure the normal operation of the lines as much as possible under the premise of safety. After the typhoon emergency response is over, relevant departments will strive to quickly and orderly restore power supply.
