Climate Domino Effect: El Nio and cross-border pests in Southeast Asia may threaten China's food security.
A recent study published in the journal "Nature Food" by domestic and foreign scientific research institutions such as the Agricultural Landscape Research Center under the joint collaboration of Peking University and the Leibniz Association in Germany, shows that under the influence of El Nio, migratory pests in Southeast Asia will reproduce in large numbers and migrate across borders to China, causing exacerbated pest problems in the southern regions of our country, potentially affecting rice production. This means that large-scale climate fluctuations can affect the food production in China through cross-border mechanisms, where climate change in other countries may eventually pose potential food security issues for China.
