Hunan Hengyang seriously dealt with the responsible persons of two fire accidents in Qidong County and Yanfeng District.
On May 24th, reporters learned from the relevant departments of the Hengyang Municipal Committee in Hunan Province that two major fire accidents with significant casualties occurred recently in Qidong County and Yanfeng District. The Hengyang Municipal Committee took corresponding organizational actions against those responsible for the two fire accidents. According to relevant regulations, Zhao Shuangfeng, the Deputy Director of the Qidong County People's Congress Standing Committee, was removed from office, as well as Ning Mingzhong, the Deputy County Mayor and Director of the Public Security Bureau of Qidong County. At the same time, Peng Zhifeng, the Secretary of the Yanfeng Street Party Working Committee, was removed from office by the Yanfeng District Committee, while Zhou Weigang, the Secretary of the Hongqiao Street Party Working Committee in Qidong County, and Li Chang, the Deputy Secretary of the Hongqiao Street Party Working Committee and Director of the Office, were also removed from office by the Qidong County Committee.
In the next step, local authorities will hold relevant personnel accountable based on the results of the accident investigation. On May 24th, a fire in a shop in the Shangzheng community of Hongqiao Street in Qidong County, Hengyang City, resulted in 5 deaths and 1 injury. On May 12th, a fire in a residential building in the Li Jiachong community of Yanfeng Street in Yanfeng District, Hengyang City, resulted in 5 deaths and 2 injuries. These two fire accidents were severe in nature and revealed the lack of safety awareness among relevant personnel, inadequate performance of duties in thorough safety inspections and rectifications, insufficient identification of major risks in safety work, inadequate rectifications, and failure to implement responsibility.
Reporters learned in Hengyang City that local authorities are making every effort to carry out large-scale inspections and rectifications on safety production, and are establishing a perfect mechanism for public reporting.
