Hunan Hengyang seriously dealt with the persons responsible for two fire accidents in Qidong County and Yanfeng District.

On May 12, 2026, a fire broke out in the residential building of the Lock Factory Household Area in Lijiacong Community, Yanfeng Street, Yanfeng District, resulting in the death of 5 people and injuries to 2 others. On May 24, in Shangzheng Community, Hongqiao Street, Qidong County, a shop caught fire, causing 5 deaths and 1 injury. These two fire accidents resulted in significant casualties and exposed serious safety issues, indicating a lack of safety awareness among responsible individuals, inadequate inspections and rectifications, failure to identify and address major safety risks, incomplete rectifications, and lack of accountability. According to reports, the authorities in Hengyang have taken disciplinary actions against those responsible for the two fire accidents in accordance with regulations and procedures. Zhao Shuangfeng has been removed from his position as Deputy Director of the Qidong County People's Congress Standing Committee, and Ning Mingzhong has been removed from his positions as Deputy County Mayor and Director of the County Public Security Bureau of Qidong County. In addition, Peng Zhifeng has been removed from his position as Party Secretary of Yanfeng Street, Yanfeng District Committee, and Zhou Weigang and Li Chang have been removed from their positions as Party Secretary and Deputy Party Secretary/Office Director of Hongqiao Street, Qidong County Committee, respectively. Moving forward, those responsible will be held accountable according to the results of the accident investigation. It is reported that the entire city of Hengyang will learn from these incidents and strengthen safety inspections and rectifications for production to establish an effective mechanism for reporting safety hazards and enhancing the safety production defense line.
