Nissan's subsidiary has cancelled plans to produce electric vehicle powertrains in the UK.
According to reports, Nissan's subsidiary Jatco Transmission has canceled the production plan for electric drive units in the Sunderland plant in the UK, due to the sluggish demand for electric vehicles in the European market. In January 2025, Jatco had announced an investment of 48.7 million pounds, equivalent to 65.39 million dollars, to produce up to 340,000 integrated motors, inverters, and reducers for electric vehicles annually at the Sunderland plant, exclusively for Nissan. Later that year, due to declining sales, Nissan announced a reduction in the number of vehicle manufacturing plants from 17 to 10, and a reassessment of the layout of powertrain factories.
