On May 22, 2026, a gas explosion occurred underground at the Shanxi Tongzhou Group's Luishen Valley Coal Mine in Qinyuan County, Changzhi City, Shanxi Province, causing serious casualties. The National Health Commission fully supports Shanxi Province in providing medical treatment and psychological counseling for the injured, and quickly dispatched officials in charge and relevant department staff to the scene to guide emergency treatment and coordination. Experts in critical care, respiratory, and trauma from Peking University People's Hospital and China-Japan Friendship Hospital were organized for remote multidisciplinary consultations with the injured. Experts in respiratory critical care, trauma, and burns from Peking Union Medical College Hospital and Beijing Jishuitan Hospital were sent to the hospitals treating the injured, forming joint medical teams with local staff to strengthen the treatment of the injured with personalized strategies. Shanxi Province was advised to send provincial and city-level psychological experts to provide psychological counseling and support for the injured and their families. The National Health Commission will continue to support Shanxi Province in providing medical treatment for the injured and will deploy national medical resources as needed to ensure the safety of the injured to the fullest extent. At the same time, efforts will be made to identify and rectify safety production risks in the health sector, strengthen on-duty responsibilities, and strive to coordinate development and safety.
