The American Pacific Power Company has agreed to pay $575 million for wildfire claims.
On February 20th local time, the U.S. Department of Justice announced that Pacific Gas and Electric Company has agreed to pay $575 million to settle claims by the U.S. government regarding losses caused by six wildfires in California and Oregon. The settlement resolves allegations by the U.S. government that neglect by Pacific Gas and Electric Company's power lines sparked these six fires. The settlement funds will be used to reimburse the U.S. government for the massive costs incurred in extinguishing these fires. The settlement funds will also be distributed to the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management for the restoration of some of the 290,000 acres of public land that were burned.
