On Friday, Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN.US) continued to rise, increasing over 4% as it led the seven tech giants. In terms of news, Amazon.com, Inc. signed a long-term agreement to procure electricity from four wind farms in Sweden to help meet the power demand resulting from the expansion of its data centers in Nordic countries. These agreements will add nearly 200 megawatts of electricity supply. Amazon.com, Inc. stated in an email that once all projects are fully operational, its total power capacity in Sweden will exceed 1 gigawatt. The four wind farms are being developed by Eolus AB and OX2 AB, the latter of which is owned by private equity firm EQT AB. As demand for cloud computing and artificial intelligence services grows, Amazon.com, Inc. and other hyperscale data center operators are increasing their electricity procurement efforts and investing in their own generation capacity. By 2025, Amazon.com, Inc. aims to become Sweden's largest buyer of fossil-free energy. Globally, Amazon.com, Inc. has invested in over 700 such projects, with a total installed capacity exceeding 40 gigawatts.
