Chen Maobo: Hong Kong's economy has recorded growth for 14 consecutive quarters, emphasizing the need to balance development and security.
Chan Maobo summarized that in the complex and changing geopolitical landscape, Hong Kong is a "safe harbor" and "development hub" where domestic and international capital, enterprises, and talent can focus on development and future prospects.
Hong Kong's Financial Secretary, Paul Chan Mo-po, stated on social media that the economy has recorded growth for 14 consecutive quarters, with a growth rate of 5.1% in the first half of the year, exceeding market expectations. He emphasized that development and security must be coordinated, and the two are a "comprehensive issue with two sides." Currently, Hong Kong is actively integrating into the national development framework and advancing the formulation of its first five-year plan to enhance long-term development momentum.
Paul Chan Mo-po noted that under "One Country, Two Systems," Hong Kong's status as a free port, its level of internationalization, its open and diverse social environment, its role as a hub connecting the mainland with the global market, and its simple and low tax system remain its core competitive advantages. However, only by adding security, stability, and a predictable investment environment can it attract capital, businesses, and talent, which are the most critical considerations for any long-term investment. He emphasized that in recent years, the continuous strengthening of national security has created a more favorable business environment for Hong Kong.
In various international rankings for finance, innovation and technology, talent, and overall competitiveness, Hong Kong continues to achieve remarkable results. Data show that last year, the number of foreign companies with headquarters based in Hong Kong exceeded 11,000, reaching a new historical high, and foreign chambers of commerce and enterprises have expressed confidence in Hong Kong's economic prospects.
Paul Chan Mo-po summarized that, amid the complex and changing geopolitical landscape, Hong Kong serves as a safe harbor and development port for domestic and overseas capital, businesses, and talent to focus on development and future prospects. He reiterated that the SAR government will continue to safeguard high-quality development with a high level of security, ensuring that "One Country, Two Systems" remains stable and enduring.
