Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN.US) has announced that the company plans to invest over 15 billion (approximately $20 billion) in the UK by 2025. These investments are part of the company's plan to invest 40 billion in the UK by the end of 2027. The investments by Amazon.com, Inc. in the UK in 2025 include launching new operations sites, expanding studio production facilities and office space, as well as starting a pilot project for drone delivery. Amazon.com, Inc. also stated in its updated annual UK economic impact and tax disclosure that the company's total revenue from activities in the UK in 2025 exceeded 30 billion. Additionally, the total amount of taxes paid exceeded 1.3 billion, representing a growth of over 20% from 2024, which includes corporation tax, business rates, national insurance contributions, and digital services tax. Last June, Amazon.com, Inc. announced a major investment plan to inject 40 billion into the UK market over the next three years. This investment demonstrates the company's long-term commitment to the UK market. The UK is Amazon.com, Inc.'s third-largest market globally, after the US and Germany, and currently employs 75,000 employees, making it one of the top ten private sector employers in the UK. This investment plan will further strengthen Amazon.com, Inc.'s position in the UK market and inject new vitality into the local economy. The investment plan by Amazon.com, Inc. covers infrastructure development in several key areas. The company will establish two new fulfillment centers in East Midlands county in England, which are expected to officially start operations in 2027. The fulfillment centers, as large warehouse facilities, will perform core functions of picking, packing, and shipping goods, with some facilities incorporating the latest automation technology including Siasun Robot & Automation. In addition to the new facilities, previously announced fulfillment centers in Hull in the north of England and Northampton in the Midlands of England will also be put into operation as planned. Each of these centers will create 2,000 direct jobs. The construction of these facilities will significantly enhance Amazon.com, Inc.'s logistics and distribution capabilities in the UK. Amazon.com, Inc. also plans to establish new delivery stations across the UK and upgrade and expand over 100 existing operating buildings. This investment plan by Amazon.com, Inc. will create thousands of new job opportunities in the UK, covering various industries such as construction, facility maintenance, engineering, and telecommunications. The new positions will not only include employees directly hired by Amazon.com, Inc., but also related job opportunities in the entire supply chain system. The creation of these positions will have a positive impact on the local labor market in the UK, especially in the manufacturing and service sectors. It is worth mentioning that the 40 billion investment plan also includes 8 billion previously announced by Amazon.com, Inc.'s cloud computing division (AWS) for data center construction, as well as operational costs such as employee salaries. The investment by the cloud computing division will be used to build, operate, and maintain data centers in the UK from 2024 to 2028, supporting Amazon.com, Inc.'s growing demand for cloud services.
